One does not see the same kind of fall in Naples as in other parts of the country. Most of the nation is putting their pools to bed for the winter, but the warmth here sees them in use all year round. Swimmers will appreciate it, yet it is incumbent on the owner to give the pool its due attention in the cooler months. We have put together a few tips of the practical sort to ensure your water is clear and clean.
The Case for Fall Care in Southwest Florida
Temperatures may be mild but the change of season is felt in your pool. You have the shorter days and the end of summer storms to contend with, to say nothing of the cooler nights. Then there are the leaves and debris and the ebb and flow of bathers; without care they can unbalance your water chemistry. A little tweaking of your regimen is all it takes to stave off more serious trouble down the line.
Water Chemistry: What to Watch
With the weather and pool activity winding down, so do your chemical needs. Something that was in balance over the summer can go adrift. Make it a habit to test.
In the fall you will want to keep tabs on:
- Chlorine and any need to make adjustments
- pH for the sake of the equipment and comfort
- Alkalinity to hold the pH in check
- Stabilizer to prevent chlorine from degrading
- Calcium hardness for the protection of surfaces
On every visit we put our branded 10-Step process to work to balance the chemicals. There are no surprises on the bill for the standard pool chemicals, they come with the service.
Debris Control
There is bound to be more organic matter in the water come fall. Let the leaves and blossoms clog the skimmer or pump and you are inviting algae. More frequent skimming and emptying of baskets is warranted. And when debris is left to sink to the bottom it will stain and be a pain to clean up. Some vacuuming and brushing will head that off. Our 10-Step process covers the skimming, tile scrubbing and vacuuming so we do not leave anything behind.
A Pre-Holiday Equipment Check
It makes sense to see that your heater, filter, pump and the like are performing as they ought before the holiday rush. The last thing one wants is a breakdown while you have company.
We would suggest a review of:
- The pump and motor for any odd noises or loss of flow
- Filter pressure indicating a cleaning is in order
- How the heater is doing on the cooler days
- Seals and connections for signs of wear or a leak
- Timers and automation for the reduced daylight
We inspect the equipment as part of our normal visit. Should anything require our attention we have an in-house repair department to handle it, no need to refer you out.
Safety First
You cannot let the cooler weather lull you into thinking safety is less of a concern. Gates and barriers must be secure. On each visit our technicians will do a gate security check. We also provide a post-visit email report so you are aware of what we found and what was done.
